Meet BAFTA East Coast
The British Academy of Film and Television Arts, East Coast (BAFTA East Coast) was launched in February 1996 in New York City as the second affiliated organization of The British Academy in the United States
BAFTA East Coast is a nonprofit membership organization providing a lively environment in which film and television professionals in New York can meet and exchange information and ideas about their sister industry in Britain. The organization continues the British Academy’s tradition of excellence by recognizing and promoting the achievements of the British film and television industry in New York and throughout the Eastern United States.
An extensive roster of feature film, television, and documentary screenings, panel discussions, premieres, and co-produced events with other established organizations in the film and television industry have propelled BAFTA East Coast through over a decade of increasingly ambitious activities.
There are 300 Full members of BAFTA East Coast who are eligible to vote for the prestigious Orange British Academy Film Awards. The UK has frozen the number of voting members at 6,500 worldwide. BAFTA East Coast also has Professional members who are highly qualified in the field of Film and Television; Associate members, those just starting out in the business and Student members who hope to join us one day in the industry. The Orange British Academy Awards are held in London in the spring and are seen by a worldwide audience spanning the US, Australia, China, India, the Middle East, Asia and Europe. BAFTA East Coast hosts an annual viewing party for this exciting event with a live satellite feed from London to New York.
In addition to the organization’s film and television events, BAFTA East Coast continues to forge alliances with the corporate and diplomatic communities in New York and Washington, DC. Increased corporate sponsorship for BAFTA East Coast activities is actively being sought. Educational programs are also being developed. BAFTA East Coast plans to expand its membership and increase its visibility beyond the metropolitan New York area.
